5G Coverage Expansion Analysis

In this post we will have a look at 5G Coverage Expansion Analysis – Find The Optimal 5G Coverage Threshold For Your Network.

This session/video explains the mechanisms that can be followed to find the optimum 5G coverage thresholds. Basically, two major categories for 5G Coverage determination are Accessibility and Throughput. It means that we try to ensure that the Accessibility does not degrade below a certain threshold when expanding 5G coverage. Similarly, we strive to maintain a minimal throughput target for all 5G sessions.

So, the following video shows the analytical procedures that can be followed to find the optimum 5G coverage threshold which meets the Accessibility, Retainability and Throughput targets.

5G Coverage Expansion Analysis – Find The Optimal 5G Coverage Threshold For Your Network

Optimum Coverage Analysis

Accessibility

  • Choose a cluster
  • Change the B1 threshold to a low value e.g. -125 dBM
  • Do a Short Call Drive Test
  • Plot the 5G SCG Failure Rate against RSRP

Throughput

  • Choose a cluster
  • Do a Long Call Drive Test
  • Plot the 5G DL/UL Throughput against RSRP
