In this article we will have a look at How To Properly Dispose Of An Old Car.
When you are in the process of buying a new car, or perhaps doing away altogether with your need for a car, there are a lot of things that you might need to bear in mind. One of the main parts of this is always going to be around knowing how to properly dispose of the old vehicle, and as it happens there are a number of ways in which you can approach this. Let’s take a look now at some of the best ways to dispose of an old car properly.
Evaluate The Car’s Value
It’s a good idea to first get a sense of how much value the car is likely to hold, because this will affect what you are going to do with it. Before you do anything else, then, take stock of what you are working with. Remember that even a non-running car might have value. Check the resale potential, because some buyers look for project cars or parts. And make sure that you are checking out how much you might get for it if you scrap your car – you might be surprised at how high these figures can go. It’s good to know what you are working with here.
Consider Selling
If the vehicle still runs or has some usable parts, then you might be thinking about selling it, which can be one of the best options out there. You could do this privately, by selling it as-is to a mechanic or parts buyer, or even just a hobbyist. Or you might trade it in at a dealership for a new vehicle. You can do this even for a car that is not roadworthy very often. Alternatively, it might be that you choose to donate it to a charity. It’s up to you, but there are many options.

Remove Personal Belongings
Before you do give it away or sell it, or scrap it, you’ll want to make sure that you have removed anything that might be a personal signifier from the car. That includes any personal belongings that there might be, as well as the registration, insurance cards and license plates if they are personal to you. This is to protect your own privacy, and it’s a really important thing to do, so make sure that you remember that. You don’t want the next owner to know all about you right away.
Recycle Responsibly
You might decide that you want to recycle the car, particularly if it has no resale or donation value. You should contact a properly licensed auto recycler to do this, and make sure that they are environmentally certified before you use their services. You might even be able to get free towing when you do this, so it’s something you should certainly ask about. And you should always get proof of disposal, so you can ensure you avoid future liability. This is really important, so don’t overlook it at all.
