Improving Sustainability In Your Business.

In this article we will discuss Improving Sustainability In Your Business.

If you are trying to save the planet then this will come across positively to your customers and clients. A lot of people look for green friendly businesses to shop with, they will look into the type of things you are doing to lessen your carbon footprint. Make sure you have a sustainability section on your website or even better create a video informing your customers of all the different things you and your company do to be eco-friendly.

Renewable Energy

There is one amazing thing you can do for the planet and environment, use renewable energy. This typically comes in two forms for businesses, solar and wind power. If there is a wind farm nearby that can provide you with power then speak to the local provider about signing up. Alternatively you could get solar panels on your roof or other large open space to power your company. If you decide solar power is the one for you then you may also want to invest in a commercial energy storage system. This stores all your unused power so you don’t waste any.

Save On Waste

In any workplace there will always be some form of waste that can’t be controlled. However, if you are working to minimize this then you are already doing your part. There may be paper being used in excess so this could be controlled a little better. Maybe, one or two pieces per day per employee. See what you can do to minimize the printer and copier being used as well, this not only uses a huge amount of power and expels a lot of heat, but it also costs your business more in usage and paper.

Work From Home

Another option to improve sustainability in the workplace is to work from home. Both you and your employees could do this if your business allows for it. When you interview potential candidates for jobs, ask them how they feel about completely remote or hybrid working schedules. There are many pros and cons to this and you need to weigh them all up and see if it is any good for your business. If your employees are worried they don’t have their own laptop or phone to use then you could provide these for them. Make sure you write in their contracts that they need to give products back if they are leaving the company.

Switch It Off

Lastly, make sure you and your employees are remembering to turn everything off at the end of the day. If your employees are away from their desk for an extended period of time then make sure they are switching their devices off so they aren’t left burning energy. The only thing that can be left overnight in your office is the internet and the fridge. Everything else, including screens and lights should be turned off. This will not only save the planet but also your business budget too.

We hope you found this article interesting and that it gave you some helpful ideas on how you can improve and maintain sustainability in your business. Remember, your carbon footprint won’t reduce overnight but you can take small steps to make a huge difference.
