Formally Commit
Before we get on to the concrete things that you can do, you might first want to consider putting out a formal commitment to the world, indicating that you as a business are ready to start putting the environment first. This is something which can be incredibly useful, as it not only signals to the world what you intend to do, it also gives you a starting point, and the impetus to get going. So make sure that you are formally committing in some way or another, and you should find that this is a great starting point.
Support Employee Decisions
You might find that many of your employees are already trying to do a lot towards helping the environment, and often one of the more powerful steps you can take is to simply support them in that. That might not mean that you are just telling them you think it’s a good idea – it could be that you are keen to actually put some infrastructure in place to help them achieve it. For instance, you could install some bike locks and showers to make it easier for people to cycle to work.
Encourage Greener Ways
In general, as well as supporting those ideas that your employees are having, you can also encourage them to do things in a range of greener ways, and this is something that you might want to be aware of as well, as it can be a really useful way to ensure that you are doing all you can. You might look into electric vehicle charging installation to help people buy electric vehicles, for instance. However you do it, if you are actively encouraging it, you will certainly find that it helps a lot.
Find Financial Incentive
If you are struggling to make much business sense of any of this, then you might want to try and find some financial incentive that it is indeed a good thing to be doing. As it happens, all the evidence seems to suggest that trying to improve your effect on the environment does tend to improve your financial standing over time too, even though you may have to pay out at first. So that is something to keep in mind as you try out these things.
