What is the Best Android Phone of 2017

After Samsung launched a smartphone that had the potential of exploding in your hand, they needed to bounce back with something remarkable and yes, they have come up with the best android phone of 2017 – Samsung Galaxy S8.

It has become the most talked about phone of 2017 with its splendid design, fantastic display, an incredible camera and lots of other excellent features.

Let us have a look at what special Samsung S8 has to offer:

Samsung S8 Design:

The design of Samsung Galaxy S8 is simply awesome. The device is slim, smooth and light and feels great to hold in your hand. The front of the phone is 100% glass and it has got curved edges which makes it the best-looking phone out there in the market.

There is a 3.5mm headphone jack here and the good news is that they are still comfortable to use and don’t leak sound at high volume.

Samsung S8 Camera:

If we talk about specifications, the camera is exactly the same as the S7 12-megapixel rear snapper complete with f/1.7 aperture. Despite having said that, the S8 has it all what it takes to capture wonderful photos with its triple-frame capture. Every time you press the shutter button, the camera captures three frames, merging them together to form the sharpest image possible, hence allowing S8 to take sharper and more accurate photos.

Samsung has also completely overhauled the front-facing camera to 8 MP auto focus.

Samsung S8 Battery:

As you are aware of the problem that Samsung had with battery in its previous model, so the battery performance of the S8 has gone backwards as compared to S7.

The S8 battery is less effective, almost an hour worse than the Samsung Galaxy S7 but the S8 does come with a fast charger that can be counted as a compensation.

Samsung S8 Security:

Samsung has increased security for Galaxy S8 and there are now 6 different ways so as to unlock the phone.

  • Fingerprint
  • Face Recognition
  • Iris Scanner
  • Pattern
  • PIN
  • Smart Lock

The only new one is the face recognition part though.

Samsung S8 Performance:

As expected, like any Samsung phone the S8 performs super-fast. If I would have to compare its performance with the likes of iPhone 7 or Huawei P10, I would consider S8 faster.

Samsung S8 Display:

The display on S8 looks fabulous – courtesy Samsung Super AMOLED unit. It is capable of playing HDR (High Dynamic Range) video content and as the screen is curved along both edges, they present a spectacular wider display on a thinner phone.

Samsung’s DeX desktop dock for the Galaxy S8:

The new “DeX” desktop docking system for the Galaxy S8 is a great feature.

It is just a little piece of hardware wherein you could plug in your Galaxy S8, attaching it to a keyboard, mouse and monitor in order to transform it into a desktop-like environment and the Galaxy S8’s interface enlarges to fill the large monitor.

Samsung S8 Bixby:

Last but not the least, we have the Bixby Assistant (Bixby is a virtual assistant developed by Samsung Electronics).

Bixby has made its debut on the Samsung Galaxy S8 device. It is an assistant that is designed to assist you locally throughout the phone using the screen, the camera and your voice. It reminds of Apple’s Siri somehow but not as good and mature as that, to be honest.

Galaxy S8 comes with three incarnations of Samsung’s Assistant:

Bixby Home –  Samsung calls Bixby Home a “social stream for your device.” It is a unified card-like interface of reminders, contextually relevant information and social media updates.
Bixby Vision – Taps machine learning to identify the objects around it. Bixby Vision tries to figure out whatever’s in front of the Galaxy S8’s camera and serve up information depending on what it finds.
Bixby Voice – Designed to respond to any command and perform actions on your phone as if you tapped though the software yourself such as opening the camera, navigating through an app or performing several actions together.

Samsung S8 Review:

So, the S8 is beautiful, looks fantastic, has sleek finish and the sexiest camera. Although there are a couple of things that go against Samsung such as the battery and more complicated device unlocking, but even though it is the fastest and the best phone around.

  1. Samsung already confirmed that MWC 2018 would see the unveiling of the next flagship Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. According to Evan Blass, famous for his leaks on Twitter, the company will announce the phone on February 26.A “C-level executive at a major casemaker” said pre-orders will begin just three days later, on March 1. The actual shipment and global release would happen on March 16 S9 specification and s9+ specification

  2. Hi Haider,
Excellent review on the Samsung 8. I myself consider this to be the best model that they have produced to date. Having been a Samsung user for many years, I can attest to the fact that Samsung produces top quality smartphones. I especially like the all screen display. Turning the on/off button into a touch screen function and shifting the camera a bit allows for more viewable space. Thanks for providing this thorough review.

  3. I want the best Android phone of 2017… I’m still stuck with my Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S8 is honestly as you said, awesome. I love the curved glass and sleek look. I always want to have the best and newest tech, but sometimes you have to wait… Do you have any idea when the Samsung Galaxy S9 will come out, or if the battery life is looking to be any better than the S8?

    1. I completely agree with you, Kenny. I also love the sleek look.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to come out on February 25, 2018. Well, I am not sure about S9’s battery life but lets hope its worth the wait.

  4. Thanks for the timely review of this Samsung S8 smartphone. It was back in 2008 when I became an iPhone 3 owner. Before were Nokia, Ericson and some other brands. Actually, I never own Samsung. Presently I am an owner of iPhone 6S Plus. Unfortunately, I am not sure that my next phone will be Apple brand. Definitely, I skip 7 series iPhones. In a nutshell, I do not like absent of conventional earphone jack as it is annoying by using aux in a car. In fact, I do not see a significant improvement vs. 6S. My cell operator is offering Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (N950) on favorable terms plus Samsung DeX as the present for $1100. I checked, and in the US it comes for about $960, but for Europe, my price is not so bad. How do you think, is it a good deal or better wait what next iPhone will offer. Thanks

    1. Thanks for taking out time and commenting on my post.

Although I am a Samsung user myself but I would still suggest you to wait for the next iPhone as it is rumored to have Wi-Fi charging option which is a big attraction within itself. As for me, I have been using Samsung for more than a year and I can easily say that I am going to stick to Samsung for my next phone (whenever it may be).

Despite having said that, if you haven’t tried Samsung as yet, I would urge you to go for Samsung unless until you find something extra special in the upcoming Apple release!

      1. Thanks for the reply. Yesterday I read on the net that Apple can lose many customers as the launch of the new model is being delayed. I fully agree and looks I will be one of them. Well, what you can say about Huawei top models, P10 Plus or so?

        1. I see, didn’t know about the delay for Apple’s new model. Thanks for updating.

To be honest, Huawei phones are getting better day by day. In my humble opinion, Huawei P10 plus is probably the first Huawei model that can be compared with iPhone 7 or latest Samsung Galaxy handsets. I have worked with Huawei for about 2 years in the Middle East and I can easily say that along with Apple and Samsung, Huawei is going to be among the most sought after smartphone manufacturers very soon!
